Life is a Cycle

May 1, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

This 7 mile tour of Kansas City, Kansas is for all riders, including especially those who would like some additional training in urban street cycling safety, with licensed trainers accompanying the ride.  It is the first tour of a national series of tours hosted and led by My City Bikes during National Bike Month for 2017.

Highlights along the tour include:  Kaw Point Riverfront Park (returns and leaves from there), the new off-street Kaw Point Connector, a portion of the Jersey Creek Greenway, and part of the route is along the future 10th Street Bikeway that will be installed this year.  We will also go past several parks in addition to Kaw Point — Big 11 Lake, Waterway Park, Northrup Park, and Huron Park.  (A map of the tour and detailed route is shown on the event website.  Link is available below and on the event Facebook page.)

There will also be an opportunity to provide input as far as future cycling and trails projects for Wyandotte County.  We want the input of all of the cycling community in both Wyandotte county and the Greater Kansas City Metro for all future bikeway projects.  Opportunities for advocacy at the Kaw Point Park location will start at 5:30 PM before the 6:00 PM ride time, and after the ride concludes.

Although there is a modest charge — $1.50 before the event and $5.00 the day of the event — all proceeds go to the American Heart Association.  They are national co-hosts of this tour, celebrating the positive impact of cycling on almost all aspects of heart health.

Local official hosts for the event include the 202020 Movement for Healthy Communities Wyandotte, and the Parks and Recreation Department for Kansas City.  We welcome you to Kansas City, Kansas.
